Job Summary

The MRI Technologist is responsible for performing procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. This includes operating MRI scanners and associated equipment with a high level of proficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Examines requests and verifies orders on each assigned patient, referring and questioning orders to the Radiologist as necessary.
  • Properly identifies patients and assists them while offering a brief explanation of the procedures, preparing patients for the procedure with a full explanation and documenting on appropriate worksheets.
  • Interviews patients for a complete medical history, reviewing in-patients, ER, and outpatients EMR's to obtain pertinent clinical history and records medical history on requisitions.
  • Assumes responsibility for the exam from beginning to completion, preparing and administering IV contrast according to departmental protocols and evaluating technical quality of images.
  • Performs basic patient care functions, informs appropriate nursing personnel of any changes in the patient's condition, and initiates life support measures for patients when necessary.
  • Practices principle of radiation safety for self, employees, patients, and family members, following appropriate radiation safety standards.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited two-year AMA approved program in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology or active enrollment in a ARMRIT or ARRT registry eligible program.
  • ARRT certification in Radiologic Technology, ARRT or NMTCB for Nuclear Medicine with advanced registry from the ARMRIT or ARRT in MRI required within one year of hire.
  • CPR certification required.
Physical Requirements

Requires moderate to heavy physical efforts in lifting and moving patients, equipment, and supplies, occasional standing, walking, and sitting during normal operation, and frequent stretching, bending, twisting, squatting, or kneeling in the daily operation of the MRI department.
