Gadget Assembler/Operator Job Description

Cincinnati Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CABVI) is seeking a legally blind candidate to join the CABVI team as a Gadget Assembler. This is a full-time or part-time position, 7.5 hour days in a union environment.

Job Summary: The Gadget Assembler/Labeler/Packer position is responsible for assembling and preparing kitchen gadget products according to customer specifications and Industries Program standards for quality, production rate, and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assemble the components of various types of kitchen gadgets, lighting, and other products according to customer specifications and Industries Program standards.
  • Attach backing cards or other product packing and identification to products using twist ties, staples, cable ties, or other means.
  • Count, pack, and label boxes of kitchen gadgets or other products.
  • Operate machines, including the riveter, spinomatic, stitcher, jammer, screwdrivers, wrenches, or other handheld assembly equipment, using all safety precautions available.
  • Identify equipment problems and malfunctions during production use and notify the Line Coordinator/Supervisor of any issues in a timely manner.
  • Conduct periodic examinations, visually or by feel, of assembly to ensure they are being assembled properly.
  • Handle defective materials appropriately.

Requirements:

  • Ability to work both independently and with other team members.
  • Positive attitude and sense of humor a must.
  • Ability to manually grasp, assemble, and pack products.
  • Ability to perform work safely using hand buttons and/or foot pedals, etc.
  • Ability to continuously move hands and arms in a repetitive motion while in a seated position.

Work Environment: Light industrial indoor manufacturing environment with minimal exposure to noise or other occupational hazards. Job functions are performed at a seated workstation or standing. Approved PPE must be worn at all times.
