Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Produce Department Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the produce department, ensuring that our customers receive exceptional service and that our products are displayed in an attractive and appealing manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service and ensure that all customers receive a remarkable shopping experience.
  • Manage department financials, including sales, profit, and loss, and implement best practices to optimize department performance.
  • Lead and develop department staff, providing training and coaching to ensure their success and ability to advance in their position.
  • Implement visual merchandising and planogram strategies to enhance the shopping experience and drive sales.
  • Manage product rotation, spoils, shrink, and markdowns, and ensure that all products are displayed in an attractive and appealing manner.
  • Ensure that the department is clean and well-maintained, and that all equipment is in good working order.
  • Manage sign and price integrity, and ensure that all prices are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Manage department inventory, including ordering and receiving products, and ensuring that all products are stored and displayed in a safe and secure manner.
  • Contribute to overall store conditions, including safety, food safety, sanitation, and hazardous waste management.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership, and training skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills and suggestive selling ability.
  • Strong organization, administration, and math skills.
  • Knowledge of department operations and financials, produce and floral products, special produce needs, trends in cooking and recipes, department food safety and hazardous materials rules, visual merchandising techniques, and applicable union contractual agreement language.
  • One year of college (or vocational school or equivalent knowledge gained through formal education, specialized training, or additional job experience).
  • Two years of produce department experience, or equivalent experience in a current Center Store, Meat, or Bakery Department Manager role.

Physical Demands

The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced retail environment, with regular exposure to cold temperatures, heavy lifting, and standing for long periods. The ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, stoop, use stairs, reach, pull, and lift objects up to 40 pounds is required.
