Job Summary:

The County Labor Relations Chief is a key position responsible for developing and administering the County labor position. This includes negotiating labor contracts, handling grievances, ensuring compliance with labor laws and regulations, and fostering positive relationships between county management and employees.

The incumbent serves as principal advisor to the Assistant Executive Officer (AEO), CEO, and Board of Supervisors on labor relations matters. They will work closely with the Director of Human Resources and AEO to coordinate strategy and report frequently to the Board of Supervisors in closed sessions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Negotiate labor contracts and handle grievances
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws and regulations
  • Foster positive relationships between county management and employees
  • Provide principal advice to the AEO, CEO, and Board of Supervisors on labor relations matters

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources management, industrial/organizational psychology, public or business administration, behavioral science, or other job-relevant field
  • Four or five years of recent professional level HR or labor law experience, or HR experience performing employee relations functions

Working Conditions:

The Labor Relations Chief will manage a constant workload directing all activities concerning the County's 11 labor unions, 28 bargaining units, and 3 non-represented plans. They will work closely with the Director of HR and AEO to coordinate strategy and report frequently to the Board of Supervisors in closed sessions.
