School Bus Driver Trainee Position Overview

The Franklin Special School District is seeking a motivated individual to participate in our comprehensive entry-level school bus operations training program. As a School Bus Driver Trainee, you will learn fundamental skills in school bus safety, transportation law, student management, and safe on-road operation. Upon successful completion of this training program, you may be promoted to a School Bus Driver or Substitute School Bus Driver role with a corresponding increase in pay.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop a "100% safety" mindset as it relates to student transportation
  • Learn effective student management skills
  • Master the safe operation of a school bus, including pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and driving skills
  • Develop two-way radio communication skills
  • Obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with "P" and "S" endorsements

Requirements:
  • 25 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Criminal background check
  • Pre-employment drug screen
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English

This is a part-time position working not more than 15 hours per week. Normal hours are 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. during the training period (Typically 3-4 weeks). Work hours are subject to occasional adjustment. The rate of pay is $10.00 per hour. This position reports to the Transportation Supervisor or designee."
