Position Overview

MCC instructors are dedicated professionals in higher education who advocate for student learning. They motivate and engage students by employing innovative teaching methodologies. They evaluate student progress to ensure academic success while remaining informed about developments in their field. Our educators collaborate as subject matter experts within the College, contributing to the institution's strategic objectives through active involvement in committees and by promoting the College to prospective students in the community.
Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Instruct courses such as Music Theory III, Musicianship III, Music Theory IV, and Musicianship IV, aligning with the learning objectives and syllabus while utilizing engaging instructional strategies.
  • Create and oversee course syllabi, materials, and assignments.
  • Provide constructive feedback and assess student performance throughout the learning journey, which may involve availability for student consultations as needed.
  • Maintain and submit course syllabi, grades, attendance records, and other required documentation.
  • Utilize educational technology, including course management systems.
  • Evaluate student learning outcomes and submit necessary assessment reports.
  • Stay current in the professional field.
  • Collaborate effectively within the department, division, and across the College to pursue educational excellence.
Qualifications
  • Minimum qualifications include a Master's degree in music, with demonstrated teaching experience preferred.
  • Commitment to the mission of the community college and to inspiring and motivating students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong skills in communication, organization, interpersonal relations, and problem-solving.

McHenry County College provides Adjunct Faculty with a sick leave allowance and credits toward tuition waivers for each semester worked. Additionally, a Professional Development fund is available each academic year, and Adjunct Faculty can participate in retirement savings through deferred compensation plans.
