Position Overview:
The Language Pathology Specialist is responsible for the direct application and management of speech and language therapy interventions as directed by a referring physician. This role involves evaluating, planning, directing, and treating all patients referred for speech and language pathology services, aiming to restore functionality and prevent disabilities resulting from illness or injury.

The specialist plays a crucial role in assisting patients to achieve optimal performance and reintegrate into society, facilitating a fulfilling life despite any limitations they may face. Additionally, the position requires participation in departmental performance improvement initiatives and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities, ensuring that personal competencies are maintained and enhanced.

Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct evaluations and develop treatment plans for patients.
- Implement speech and language therapy techniques to aid recovery.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to optimize patient care.
- Engage in departmental budget discussions related to speech pathology services.
- Assist in scheduling patient appointments for evaluations and treatments.
- Participate in infection control and safety programs within the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in speech/language pathology.
  • Current licensure in the state of Connecticut as a Speech Pathologist.
  • Thorough understanding of speech pathology principles and practices.
  • Ability to perform technical skills relevant to speech therapy.
  • Knowledge of infection control and its implications in rehabilitation.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification.

Work Environment:
This position is part-time, with a standard schedule of 28 hours per week. The work shift includes daytime hours on specified weekdays.

Physical Requirements:
- Minimal manual dexterity required.
- Light physical effort may be necessary, with the potential to exert up to 10 lbs. of force.
- Generally favorable working conditions.
