Building Inspector I

We are seeking a highly skilled Building Inspector I to join our team at the City of Great Falls, MT. As a key member of our Planning and Community Development department, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct thorough inspections of building projects to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
- Review and evaluate proposed building plans and specifications to ensure compliance with relevant codes and regulations.
- Maintain accurate documentation of the review and inspection process.
- Investigate complaints of alleged unsafe building conditions and process cases in accordance with city policies and procedures.
- Recommend changes to existing inspection methods and amendments to current safety standards and codes to improve efficiency and update regulatory requirements.
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Five years of experience in construction or a related field.
- Must obtain ICC Commercial Building Inspector and Residential Building Inspector certifications within six months of employment.
- Must obtain ICC Plans Examiner certification within twelve months of employment.
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Montana driver's license.
- Must have the ability to obtain additional International Code Council (ICC) certifications as needed.
This position requires the ability to work in a variety of environments, including tight spaces, on rooftops, outdoors, noisy, dusty, damp, and on ladders.
Physical DemandsThe employee must be able to perform medium physical work and lift and carry up to 50 pounds at a time.
