Long-Term Care Pharmacy Technician

Position Overview
The Long-Term Care (LTC) Pharmacy Technician plays a crucial role in supporting licensed pharmacists in delivering pharmacy services to various long-term care facilities. These facilities may include nursing homes, group homes, adult daycare centers, and assisted living establishments. The primary responsibilities encompass:
- Processing medication orders efficiently
- Unit dosing and product management
- Maintaining medical records (MAR) and treatment records (TAR)
- Managing literal orders and packaging
- Ensuring compliance with anti-psychotic record maintenance
All records generated are subject to review by a licensed pharmacist and must adhere to state regulations, which include compliance surveys that may incur penalties for non-compliance.
Key Responsibilities
The LTC Pharmacy Technician is also trained in various aspects of pharmacy service, which includes:
- Stocking emergency medication boxes
- Addressing inquiries from clients and healthcare providers
- Maintaining necessary documentation as mandated by state law
- Removing expired medications from serviced facilities
Travel to different facilities is required for conducting physical counts of emergency boxes and reviewing expired medications. Flexibility in hours is essential, as patient care remains the top priority. All technicians will be expected to participate in on-call duties, providing 24/7 coverage with a prompt response time.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, candidates must possess:
- A minimum of a High School diploma or GED
- Pharmacy Technician Certification or enrollment in a Pharmacy Technician training program, with certification expected within 210 days of hire
- Experience in LTC pharmacy settings is preferred
