Position Overview
The Junior Geotechnical Engineer will collaborate with a licensed professional engineer to support project teams in developing exceptional designs for a diverse range of projects, including energy, industrial, healthcare, transportation, educational, and governmental facilities. This role involves working closely with the project team throughout the design and construction phases, adjusting geotechnical strategies based on budgetary limits, design considerations, or client specifications. Fieldwork will vary based on project demands.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the geotechnical design of projects from initial concepts to final design completion. Participate in geotechnical risk assessments, slope stability evaluations, calculations, and the development of mitigation strategies.
- Assist in the modification and review of production drawings for various projects, including energy plants, industrial sites, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions.
- Support the design of geotechnical elements to meet project requirements as defined by project managers.
- Utilize foundational knowledge of standard geotechnical engineering concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the industry.
- Participate in subsurface investigations to aid geotechnical design and evaluation efforts, including test boring inspections and instrumentation monitoring.
- Conduct research and compile project-related data as needed by project managers, including geotechnical data, boring logs, and subsurface profiles.
- Engage in field reconnaissance and geological research to assess site-specific geological and hydrogeological conditions and risks. Assist in planning subsurface explorations and laboratory testing programs.
- Support client presentations and contract management for the design of energy, industrial, healthcare, educational, and governmental facilities.
- Assist in geotechnical construction observation during the project construction phase.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program is required.
- A Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program is strongly preferred.
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) is strongly preferred.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 is strongly preferred.
- Prior internship or relevant consulting experience is preferred.
- Engagement in campus or community activities is valued.
- Basic understanding of standard geotechnical engineering techniques, principles, and procedures is essential. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment, demonstrating critical thinking skills.
- Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Basic knowledge of geotechnical analysis software (e.g., Ensoft LPILE, GeoStudio, or CPT software) is beneficial.
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, teamwork, organization, and problem-solving skills are necessary.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities are important.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.

Work Schedule: Full-time
Travel Requirements: Yes, approximately 20% of the time
