Position Summary
The Certified Central Sterilization Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring that surgical instruments and equipment are properly sterilized and ready for use in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This position is essential for maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide sterile or high-level disinfected equipment and supplies for surgical procedures.
- Adhere to established protocols for decontamination, sterilization, and storage of medical instruments.
- Collaborate with surgical teams to ensure timely availability of necessary equipment.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and assist in training new staff members.
Qualifications
Formal Education / Training:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in Central Sterilization required.
- Certification from IAHCSMM or CBSPD is mandatory and must be maintained.
- Continuing education of 10 hours annually is required.
Workplace Experience:
- Experience in a Central Sterilization and Processing environment, preferably in a surgical setting.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and independently or as part of a team.
- Knowledge of sterilization techniques and equipment.
- Strong communication skills in English, both oral and written.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged standing and ability to lift and transport objects up to 250 lbs with assistance.
- Willingness to work overtime or late shifts as needed.
- Participation in weekend and holiday call rotation may be required.
Work Environment
This position is based in a surgical facility with exposure to various environmental conditions, including anesthetics and infectious materials. The role requires adherence to safety protocols and the use of personal protective equipment.
