Role Summary:

The Senior Battery Management Engineer will play a crucial role in the creation of a high-voltage battery management system. This position requires close collaboration with hardware and software engineers across various teams.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Formulate requirements for diverse performance prediction algorithms.
  • Develop algorithms to assess the State of Energy (SOE) and State of Power (SOP) of battery packs.
  • Validate models and algorithms through MIL, SIL, PIL, and HIL methodologies at the battery pack level.
  • Confirm model parameters for tracking and prediction algorithms using data from controlled cell testing.
  • Devise testing strategies, models, and algorithms to identify and resolve issues early in the design process.
  • Optimize algorithms to function within real-time computing constraints, including CPU cycles, memory, and energy consumption.
  • Collaborate with the PMO organization to execute the build plan.
  • Travel up to 10% domestically and internationally as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline is required; a Master's degree or Ph.D. in Control Systems with a focus on battery modeling and gauging is preferred.

Applicants should possess a minimum of five years of proven experience in battery algorithm development, with equivalent combinations of education and experience considered.

Essential skills include:

  • Expertise in developing battery prediction algorithms such as SOC, SOH, SOP, and SOE.
  • Experience in creating battery cell models (ECM, Particle, etc.) for system simulation.
  • Proficiency in developing model parameter tracking algorithms.
  • Familiarity with advanced control techniques, including EKF, state observers, machine learning, and multi-parameter optimization.
  • Proficient in modeling tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, Stateflow, and Simscape, including optimization toolboxes.
  • Understanding of rechargeable Li-Ion chemistries and their control opportunities.
  • Strong mathematical skills for solving complex control challenges.
  • Programming experience in C and C++ for real-time applications.
  • Data analysis and scripting skills, preferably in Python, for processing large datasets.
  • Knowledge of cell behavior under varying loads and thermal conditions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage work independently within time constraints.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in the aviation sector with knowledge of DO-178C compliance for software development is advantageous.

Compensation for this position will vary based on skills, experience, and job-related knowledge. This role is also eligible for a bonus as part of the total compensation package.
