Role Summary:

The Senior Battery Management Engineer will play a crucial role in the design and implementation of high-voltage battery management systems. This position requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including hardware and software engineers, to drive innovation in battery technology.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Define requirements for various performance prediction algorithms.
  • Develop algorithms to assess the State of Energy (SOE) and State of Power (SOP) for battery packs.
  • Utilize MIL, SIL, PIL, and HIL techniques to validate models and algorithms at the battery pack level.
  • Ensure model parameters for tracking and prediction algorithms are verified against data from controlled cell testing.
  • Create test strategies and models to identify and resolve issues early in the design process.
  • Optimize algorithms to function within real-time constraints, including CPU cycles, memory, and power consumption.
  • Collaborate with the PMO organization to execute the build plan.
  • Travel domestically and internationally up to 10% as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field is required; a Master's degree or Ph.D. in Control Systems with a focus on battery modeling is preferred. Candidates should have a minimum of five years of experience in battery algorithm development, with expertise in:

  • Creating battery prediction algorithms such as SOC, SOH, SOP, and SOE.
  • Developing battery cell models for system simulation.
  • Implementing model parameter tracking algorithms.
  • Applying advanced control techniques, including EKF, state observers, and machine learning.
  • Utilizing modeling tools like MATLAB, Simulink, and Simscape.
  • Understanding rechargeable Li-Ion chemistries and their control opportunities.
  • Programming in C and C++ for real-time applications.
  • Data analysis and scripting in Python for processing large datasets.

Additional Skills:

Experience in aviation and familiarity with DO-178C compliance for software development is preferred. Candidates should possess excellent communication skills, strong organizational abilities, and the capacity to prioritize tasks effectively.


Compensation:

The base pay for this position ranges from $180,100 to $218,300 USD, depending on skills and experience. This role is also eligible for a bonus as part of the total compensation package.
