NYC Health + Hospitals seeks a dedicated and experienced Supervising Special Officer to facilitate the transition of new Special Officers from the Hospital Police Academy to their duties within the institution.


Job Summary

This role involves conducting on-the-job training programs for new Special Officers, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform their responsibilities effectively.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the policies, procedures, and guidelines applicable to NYS Peace Officers, as well as excellent communication and leadership skills.


Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct on-the-job training programs for new Special Officers, focusing on the essential functions and responsibilities of their job.
  • Provide consistent coaching, training, and evaluation of new officers, ensuring they meet the department's field training program standards.
  • Exposure new Special Officers to their full range of job tasks, guiding them in displaying confidentiality and discretion required of Special Officers at NYC Health + Hospitals.
  • Guide Special Officers in the performance of their required tasks, ensuring they become competent and self-sufficient in the practical application of their responsibilities.
  • Review and reinforce de-escalation and conflict resolution techniques, equipping new Special Officers with the knowledge and skills necessary to apply them in actual crisis situations.

Requirements
  • Permanent Supervising Special Officer incumbents with at least one year of experience in the role.
  • Valid New York State (NYS) Peace Officer certification.
  • Valid New York State (NYS) Driver's license.
  • Completion of the NYC Health + Hospitals Field Training Officer (FTO) training administered by the Hospital Police Academy prior to commencing assignment as an FTO.
