Position Overview
The Bakery Operations Assistant is responsible for the preparation of various baked items, including bread, rolls, and pastries. This role involves decorating cakes and other confections, operating essential baking equipment such as mixers and ovens, and ensuring the quality of baking ingredients by inspecting them for spoilage. This is a temporary position without benefits.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare baked goods by gathering necessary utensils and ingredients; accurately weigh and measure components; roll, cut, and shape dough for various products; fill molds and pans; and manage the baking process by placing and removing trays from the oven.
- Decorate cakes and pastries with icing and fillings, ensuring visual appeal and quality.
- Operate baking equipment, including bread slicers and mixers, adhering to established procedures to ensure efficiency.
- Inspect ingredients such as flour and sugar for freshness and quality.
- Package baked goods appropriately for distribution, including cutting, bagging, and wrapping items.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas as part of standard operational procedures.
Additional Duties
- May assist in the preparation of specialty items such as puddings and fruit gelatins.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability to read and interpret measurement tables.
- Competence in calculating ratios and proportions.
- Capability to follow both written and verbal instructions effectively.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and transport heavy items.
- Understanding of the regulations and procedures governing bakery operations.
- Ability to foster positive working relationships with colleagues.
Work Environment
- Job involves repetitive motions, including lifting, bending, and reaching.
- Prolonged standing is required.
- Tasks may involve balancing and carrying items.
Work Schedule
- Shifts will vary based on departmental needs and may include weekends and holidays.
- This is a temporary, non-benefited role.
Compensation
- Hourly wage of $21.00.
