SUMMARY:
Under the guidance of supervision, this role involves executing physical security measures, loss prevention strategies, emergency response actions, safety monitoring, and performing minor maintenance tasks.

The individual in this position is expected to carry out assigned responsibilities efficiently, effectively, and competently, while continuously striving for improvement and excellence in all tasks undertaken.

Additionally, it is anticipated that this individual will work towards a comprehensive understanding of the community college's role, fostering cooperation and teamwork with college personnel and the broader community.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Possesses knowledge of best practices in physical security and asset protection.

Implements college regulations and policies in a fair, reasonable, and consistent manner.

Establishes and maintains effective professional relationships with students, staff, and the public, demonstrating behaviors that foster respect, dignity, and trust.

Monitors activity schedules and becomes acquainted with campus programs and services.
Offers information and guidance to the campus community and visitors as needed.
Controls access to campus facilities and equipment as required.

Secures campus assets and facilities by adhering to proper access control protocols; monitors the premises for safety and security hazards.

Exhibits user-level proficiency in operating campus Access Control and Surveillance systems.
Conducts regular patrols of the campus on foot or by vehicle as assigned.
Provides first aid when requested and facilitates contact with emergency medical services.
Manages crowd and traffic control as necessary.
Communicates information using two-way radios, telephones, and computer software; responds to service requests.
Investigates suspicious activities and safety issues; takes appropriate action based on approved methods and standards.
Reports safety and security concerns, as well as emergency situations, to local emergency services and relevant campus administrators as necessary.
Coordinates with campus administrators and emergency services in response to both non-emergency and emergency situations as required.

Possesses knowledge of college emergency management protocols and demonstrates awareness of the principles of the National Incident Management System.

Assists Physical Resources staff in overseeing preventative maintenance and the operation of mechanical, access control, fire, and other safety-related equipment to ensure proper functionality.

Demonstrates user-level proficiency in operating campus safety systems and emergency notification systems.
Monitors and responds to alarms related to physical plant, fire detection, and access control systems.
Submits work order requests and makes calls for emergency repairs as necessary.

Performs light maintenance tasks on a limited basis, such as minor mechanical repairs, janitorial duties, and snow removal; utilizes hand tools, conducts preventative vehicle maintenance, and operates small tractors or trucks for snow removal.

Monitors parking areas for compliance with posted restrictions; issues warning tickets for unauthorized or unsafe parking as necessary.

Keeps detailed notes of significant shift activities and incidents, effectively communicating information both verbally and in writing.
Documents incidents using appropriate computer software or handwritten reports as necessary.
Remains adaptable to changing environments and situations.
May be required to testify in campus administrative disciplinary hearings and civil/criminal courts, providing information and documentation of incidents.
Seeks out professional development opportunities related to work and participates in all required training programs and activities.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises temporary security assignments and campus employees as directed by the Protective Services Supervisor, college administrators, or Incident Commander.

Ensures safe working conditions and practices at all times.
Performs other duties as assigned.
