Job Title: Senior Manager, Shelter Animal Behavior

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Manager, Shelter Animal Behavior to join our team at the ASPCA's Recovery & Rehabilitation Center (R&R Center). As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for overseeing the behavior program, supervising a team of Behavior Specialists, and collaborating with other departments to ensure the best possible outcomes for animals in our care.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive behavior program that aligns with the ASPCA's mission and goals.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of Behavior Specialists, providing guidance and support to ensure they have the skills and knowledge needed to excel in their roles.
  • Collaborate with other departments, including Operations and Medical, to ensure seamless communication and coordination of animal care.
  • Conduct behavior assessments and develop treatment plans for animals in our care.
  • Provide expert input on enrichment programs, housing changes, and other animal care initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community stakeholders, including veterinarians, shelters, and rescue groups.
  • Participate in program development, staff hiring, and team onboarding during the development phase.
  • During the implementation phase, schedule and conduct behavior modification sessions, record data, and coordinate other Behavior Branch activities.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working as a professional animal behavior expert, handling, assessing, and treating animals with behavior problems.
  • Experience and skill working with fearful, aggressive, and difficult-to-handle dogs required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of professional experience working in an animal shelter required (volunteer work may be considered).
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience managing a team required, preferably in an animal-related field.
  • High School Diploma or GED required; B.A. or B.S. in animal behavior preferred.
  • CAAB/ACAAB certification, IAABC certification, or eligibility for certification a plus.
  • CPDT-KA or -KSA certification required within 1 year of hire.
  • Sophia Yin Low Stress Handling University Silver-Level certification required within six months of hire.
  • ASPCA Shelter Behavior Apprenticeship participation required within 2 years.

What We Offer:

The ASPCA offers a competitive salary range of $86,000 - $109,000, depending on location, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) matching, and paid time off.
