Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Manager, Shelter Animal Behavior to join our team at the ASPCA's Recovery & Rehabilitation Center. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for overseeing the behavior program, supervising a team of Behavior Specialists, and collaborating with other departments to ensure the optimal care and well-being of animals in our shelter.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive behavior program that aligns with the ASPCA's mission and goals.
  • Supervise and coach a team of Behavior Specialists to ensure they have the skills and knowledge needed to provide exceptional care to animals in our shelter.
  • Collaborate with other departments, including Operations and Medical, to ensure seamless communication and coordination of animal care.
  • Conduct behavior assessments, develop treatment plans, and provide coaching and guidance to staff on animal behavior and welfare.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to animal behavior and welfare.
  • Stay up-to-date on best practices and research in animal behavior and welfare, and apply this knowledge to inform our shelter's practices and policies.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working as a professional animal behavior expert, handling, assessing, and treating animals with behavior problems.
  • Experience and skill working with fearful, aggressive, and difficult to handle dogs.
  • Minimum of 1 year professional experience working in an animal shelter.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience managing a team, preferably in an animal-related field.
  • High School Diploma or GED required; B.A. or B.S. in animal behavior preferred.
  • CAAB/ACAAB certification, IAABC certification or eligibility for certification a plus.
  • CPDT-KA or -KSA certification required within 1 year of hire.
  • Sophia Yin Low Stress Handling University Silver-Level certification required within six months of hire.
