Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Manager of Shelter Animal Behavior to join our team at the ASPCA's Recovery & Rehabilitation Center. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of our behavior program, supervising a team of Behavior Specialists, and collaborating with other departments to ensure the optimal care and well-being of animals in our shelter.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive behavior program that aligns with the ASPCA's mission and goals
  • Supervise and mentor a team of Behavior Specialists, providing guidance and support to ensure their success
  • Collaborate with other departments, including Operations and Medical, to ensure seamless communication and coordination
  • Conduct behavior assessments, develop treatment plans, and provide coaching and guidance to staff
  • Participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to animal behavior and welfare
  • Stay up-to-date with industry best practices and research, applying this knowledge to inform program development and implementation
Requirements
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working as a professional animal behavior expert, handling, assessing, and treating animals with behavior problems
  • Experience and skill working with fearful, aggressive, and difficult to handle dogs
  • Minimum of 1 year professional experience working in an animal shelter
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience managing a team
  • High School Diploma or GED required; B.A. or B.S. in animal behavior preferred
  • CAAB/ACAAB certification, IAABC certification or eligibility for certification a plus
  • CPDT-KA or -KSA certification required within 1 year of hire
  • Sophia Yin Low Stress Handling University Silver-Level certification required within six months of hire
