Lead Cost Accountant

Position Overview:

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Lead Cost Accountant plays a crucial role in ensuring the precision of financial data and the integrity of internal controls within the cost accounting framework. This position is pivotal in managing the data associated with product costing, pricing strategies, and inventory oversight. The individual will also contribute to the formulation of financial statements, supervise inventory management processes, and oversee working capital management. Effective collaboration across various departments is essential, as is the ability to thrive under pressure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the cost accounting framework and inventory management. Identify and implement enhancements to the system in response to product and cost fluctuations within the organization.
  • Support additional financial operations including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and month-end closing activities.
  • Conduct and finalize internal cost variance assessments.
  • Evaluate the gathered data and maintain a comprehensive record of findings.
  • Examine any modifications in products or services to assess their impact on costs.
  • Review manufacturing and selling, general & administrative (SG&A) expenses, and generate regular reports that compare estimated or standard costs with actual production expenses, identifying potential cost-saving opportunities.
  • Prepare cost estimates for new and proposed products based on routing information provided by the Engineering department.
  • Deliver reports that detail and compare elements influencing pricing and profitability of products or services.
  • Manage periodic physical inventory counts and the inventory cycle count initiative.
  • Handle additional responsibilities, special projects, and business analysis tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Strong grasp of accounting principles.
  • Robust background in cost systems.
  • Analytical mindset with excellent conceptual and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail coupled with outstanding organizational skills.
  • Capability to perform under pressure and meet stringent deadlines.
  • Able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Proficient in report writing, communication, and IT skills.
