POSITION TITLE: Shift Supervisor

ORGANIZATION: Westhab Inc.

COMPENSATION: $24.00 per hour

ROLE SUMMARY: The Shift Supervisor plays a crucial role within our organization, ensuring the safety and security of a men's homeless shelter through specialized tasks and effective security protocols. Reporting directly to the Security Manager, this position is essential for maintaining a secure environment. Proof of COVID-19 vaccinations is required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Thoroughly train new security and residential aide personnel.
  • Oversee and delegate tasks to SSO/residential aides, drivers, and kitchen staff during shifts.
  • Manage access control, including the use of magnetometers and X-ray machines.
  • Respond swiftly to incidents, applying crisis management techniques to protect staff and clients.
  • Conduct regular patrols both inside and outside the facility to identify and report hazardous situations, trespassers, and illegal activities.
  • Provide immediate emergency response and support to staff and subordinates.
  • Prepare monthly security and incident reports as required.
  • Document activities in CARES and adhere to Westhab protocols.
  • Coordinate with emergency medical services and law enforcement during their presence at the site.
  • Inspect security and fire safety systems on a daily basis.
  • Assume Client Care Monitor responsibilities in their absence.
  • Adjust staffing schedules to accommodate unexpected absences.
  • Ensure the safety of clients and staff, providing crisis intervention when necessary.
  • Assist in planning and executing fire drills.
  • Review log book entries, incident reports, and administrative tasks for accuracy.
  • Participate in meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Conduct daily inventory checks of equipment, addressing any discrepancies.
  • Perform additional assigned responsibilities as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of an Associate's Degree in social services, criminology, or a related field; or equivalent experience is required. A valid New York State Security Guard and Fire Guard License, along with certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (C.P.I.), are mandatory. Proficiency in security systems is essential. This role offers opportunities for personal and professional development, allowing for decision-making based on factual information. A solid understanding of video surveillance and fire detection/alarm systems is crucial. Flexibility in availability is required, along with familiarity with shelter protocols.
