Medical Assistant or LPN

We are seeking a skilled Medical Assistant or LPN to join our team at Advocate Health. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting our clinicians in delivering exceptional patient experiences.
Responsibilities- Prepare patients for exams by obtaining vital signs and gathering pertinent health information.
- Monitor and complete clinical integration and quality improvement measures, notifying clinicians of opportunities within their scope.
- Perform laboratory procedures, including strep tests, wound cultures, and specimen collection, using aseptic technique and standard precautions.
- Assist physicians and advanced practice clinicians with procedures, such as pelvic exams, allergy scratch testing, and EMG.
- Administer routine medications, under physician or APC orders, which may include immunizations, antibiotics, and topical agents.
- Follow through with necessary procedure or test requests, pre-approved care algorithms, new appointment times, and referrals to other facilities or services.
- Refer questions to registered nurses and physicians/APCs per scope of practice guidelines and relay information back to patients as directed.
- Communicate with physicians/APCs and other healthcare team members to ensure smooth clinic flow and adjust as necessary.
- Effectively communicate accurate and timely information with patients.
- Perform basic and advanced clinical support tasks or skills based on specialty and competencies, such as removal of sutures and staples, laboratory procedures, and phlebotomy.
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Medical Assistant certification.
- Active license issued by the state in which you practice, and Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 45 days.
- LPN: Advanced training beyond high school, including completion of an accredited or approved program in Practical Nursing.
- Medical Assistant: GED or HS Equivalency Diploma, completion of an accredited or approved program in Medical Assistant, or 2 years of verifiable full-time experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 5 years.
- Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within the Medical Assistant scope of practice after demonstrated competency.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with patients, team members, and physicians.
- Proficient computer skills, including keyboarding, navigation within a windows operating system, and use of electronic mail with exposure to electronic medical records systems.
This role requires sitting, standing, walking, lifting, squatting, bending, twisting, crawling, kneeling, climbing, and reaching above shoulders throughout the workday. Ability to lift 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts over 35 pounds, or when patients are unable to assist with lifts, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other team member, when available.
