As a Senior Sustaining Electrical Engineer at Abbott, you will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and supervising the manufacture, installation, and operation of equipment, machines, and systems for the generation, distribution, use, and control of electric power.

You will utilize your expertise in analog measurement electronics, digital electronics, embedded software, firmware, NFC, Bluetooth, and high-volume manufacturing to work with teams inside and outside of R&D performing failure analysis and opportunities, and work with quality assurance to robustly document methods of using product event and data logs to identify root cause of product failures.

You will synthesize electrical and software design strategies for verification/commissioning of electrical test fixtures, review test protocols and reports, participate in CAPA process, and utilize excellent communication and organization skills to work with cross-functional teams outside of R&D and vendors.

You will also provide guidance and/or act as independent technical reviewer on projects with little to no previous direct involvement, including technical product design reviews, design requirements documents, and CAPAs.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or Physics, or other discipline with experience in Electrical Engineering
  • 8 years relevant experience with BS or 6 years relevant experience with MS
  • Experience with component-level product design and/or failure analysis
  • Experience working with products with wireless communication, such as Bluetooth
  • Experience with medical device systems development per FDA and EU design control

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with analog measurement circuitry, op amps, A/D, mixed-signal ASICs, failure modes of electronics produced as lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, source measurement unit (SMU), power analyzer, spectrum analyzer
  • PCBA level product design for low-power measurement circuitry produced as high volume
  • Experience preparing FDA audit responses
  • Good understanding of processes used in the design, documentation, and verification of medical devices or IVD
