Job Summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a highly skilled Paralegal to join our team. As a key member of our Legal Department, you will be responsible for providing support to our attorneys and other stakeholders in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Investigate facts and analyze legislation, statutory and case law, judicial decisions, legal opinions and rulings, ordinances, and other documents to determine legal relevancy to UMass Memorial Health Care and/or its subsidiaries.
  • Collect, analyze, and input raw data needed for legal administrative and quality matters, preparing reports, graphs, and other written summaries as requested by the General Counsel.
  • Prepare drafts of opinions, memoranda, and other documents such as contracts and corporate filings for review, approval, and use by attorneys.
  • Review and respond to all subpoenas and other third-party discovery requests, including medical record requests, received by the Office of General Counsel.
  • Prepare, maintain, and track retainer agreements with outside counsel at the request of the General Counsel.
  • Assist with the preparation of votes, executive summaries, and other documents necessary for corporate governance.
  • Assist with response to general patient care-related questions, including screening and triaging patient care calls.
  • Assist with document review and production.
  • Issue and maintain records of litigation holds issued by the Office of General Counsel.
  • Assist with coordination of law student internship program.
  • Maintain the Office of General Counsel Intranet website.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare reports or summaries of such research for attorneys and others.
  • Prepare draft policies and procedures for review, approval, and/or use by attorneys and others.
  • Assemble, organize, and produce legal and other documents for use by attorneys; prepare exhibits; compile due diligence materials; and assist attorneys at trial or hearing.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited college.
  • Minimum of seven to ten years of work experience as a paralegal, including experience that provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description.
