Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and assist with morning routines, including breakfast, lunch, and snack times, to promote healthy habits and social skills.
  • Escort students to and from lunch, monitor behavior in the cafeteria and hallways, and maintain a positive and respectful atmosphere.
  • Assist with emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips, ensuring student safety and well-being.
  • Report discipline issues to appropriate personnel, maintaining a fair and consistent approach to student behavior management.
  • Manage inventory and order supplies and materials as needed, ensuring a well-stocked and organized classroom environment.
  • Prepare materials and resources requested by teachers, including designing and binding books, preparing graphs, and student name charts for classroom use.
  • Distribute and collect workbooks, papers, and other instructional materials, maintaining accurate records and tracking student progress.
  • Operate and maintain instructional equipment and materials, ensuring they are in good working order and available for student use.
  • Assist students in mastering the use of equipment and materials, promoting independence and self-confidence.
  • Help students with personal care routines, including washing hands, using the restroom, and maintaining hygiene standards.
  • Alert teachers to any issues or concerns regarding individual students, ensuring timely and effective support.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for substitute teachers, providing information and support to ensure a smooth transition.
  • Read to students, listen to students read, and engage in other forms of oral communication, promoting literacy and language skills.
  • Assist students in the library or media center, supporting research and learning activities.
  • Maintain bulletin boards and other classroom displays, ensuring they are visually appealing and engaging.
  • Collaborate with teachers to enhance the learning environment, promoting a positive and inclusive classroom culture.
  • Administer, score, and record achievement and diagnostic tests, as recommended by teachers, to inform instruction and improve student outcomes.
  • Check student notebooks, correct papers, and supervise testing and make-up work, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in handling student information and records.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities, staying up-to-date with best practices and research in early childhood education.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or at least 9 credit hours of college coursework in Early Childhood Education or Child Development from a regionally accredited institution.
Evaluation

Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with the Alabama Department of Education's personnel evaluation policy.

Salary Range

Salary is based on the Board-approved salary schedule, taking into account rank, certification, and experience.
