Certified Surgical Specialist

At Yale New Haven Health, we are seeking a skilled Certified Surgical Technician to join our team. As a key member of our operating room staff, you will play a vital role in ensuring the highest level of patient care and safety.
Responsibilities:
- Implement actions to maintain a safe environment for patients, including positioning, time out, medication management, and prevention of nosocomial infection.
- Position patients safely and efficiently.
- Participate in the "time out" process to ensure accurate patient identification and procedure verification.
- Manage medications and supplies effectively.
- Prevent patient injury from positioning, extraneous objects, medications, infection, chemical/physical/electrical hazards.
- Demonstrate knowledge of all skills and principles necessary in the role, including asepsis, hazmat, and blood-borne pathogens.
- Prepare and organize materials, recognizing special needs of patients, procedures, and/or surgeons.
- Assist in room preparation when required.
- Check and maintain department equipment and supplies.
- Safely operate all equipment according to manufacturer specifications.
- Implement case breakdown procedures, ensuring minimal downtime between cases, and assist in room turnover.
- Demonstrate clinical and technical skills according to established standards of practice.
- Meet performance expectations for customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and staff and self-development.
- Perform other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the ASC.
Education:
Graduate of an approved school of allied health or surgical technology required.
CPR certification required.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
Operating room experience preferred.
Licensure:
BLS required.
Special Skills:
National certification required within 18 months of hire.
