Job Summary

The Medical Care Specialist at New London Hospital is responsible for providing high-quality care to patients in the medical/surgical unit. This role involves working as part of a team under the supervision of a Registered Nurse to deliver safe and effective patient care. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and be committed to patient engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Provides and documents nursing care assessments, interventions, and patient education under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Alerts the Registered Nurse to any changes in patient presentation or unexpected assessment findings.
Reviews patient plans of care and pertinent active orders in the electronic medical record prior to providing care.
Assists patients with activities of daily living, nutrition, and hydration according to orders and goals of care.
Performs and documents focused nursing assessments, including vital signs, pain assessment, skin and wound assessment, functional status assessment, and assessment of drains and ostomies.
Administers oral, topical, and inhaled medications, and may administer intravenous medications upon successful completion of NH Board of Nursing approved training and with specific delegation by a Registered Nurse.
Applies dressings and assistive devices as indicated by assessment or as ordered by the interdisciplinary team.
Reports relevant assessment findings and suggestions to enhance patient care directly to members of the interdisciplinary team and the supervising Registered Nurse.

Requirements

NH Board of Nursing Approved IV Therapy Certification required upon hire or within 6 months.
Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing.
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the State of NH required.
