Oneida Molded Plastics (OMP) is seeking an Onsite Tool & Mold Design Engineer to join our growing team in Central New York. This position requires daily reporting to the worksite, making it an excellent opportunity for those who thrive in a collaborative environment.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with engineers and offsite vendors to design cost-effective manufacturing tools and molds for new product lines.
- Work with the engineering team to create design sketches, layouts, and plans.
- Utilize computer-assisted design (CAD) software to create preliminary and detailed drawings of the tools and molds.
- Produce specifications for tools and molds and choose raw materials and components to be used.
- Facilitate the repairs of dies, molds, and tools when needed.
- Read and understand engineering drawings and complicated schematics as required to create and build new fixtures, tools, and machine parts.
- Maintain knowledge of best practices in manufacturing methods, tools, molds, and trends and developments in technology and equipment.
- Identify and assess various problems and departures from established standards and best practices; research and recommend solutions.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and well-organized workspace.
- Report to the Oneida, NY worksite each day.
- Possession of a High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering is required, with a Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of five years of engineering and/or tool maker (journeyman) experience is required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
- Excellent mechanical and technical skills are necessary.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are required.
- Advanced mold design skills are necessary.
- Thorough understanding of applicable industry standards is required.
- Proficiency in computer-assisted design (CAD) software, particularly Solidworks, is essential.
- Proficiency in machine shop processes, including CNC, EDM, grinding, and finishing, is required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software is necessary.
