We are seeking a highly skilled Claim Specialist, Level II to join our team at the City of New York. As a key member of our Bureau of Law & Adjustment, you will be responsible for investigating and resolving tort claims filed against the City.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct thorough investigations of property damage claims, including obtaining and reviewing agency reports, analyzing liability and damages, and preparing objective evaluations of claims.
- Prepare claim abstracts detailing relevant information pertaining to the investigation and evaluation of damages.
- Make sound recommendations for the settlement or disallowance of assigned claims, and negotiate and settle claims within authorized monetary levels.
- Search databases, media outlets, and other sources to gather information relevant to claims.
- Maintain control over claim caseload, follow up with requests to agencies, and close out claims beyond the statutory time period.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with City agencies, claimants, attorneys, and insurance carriers.
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, or an associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college or university and two years of full-time satisfactory experience investigating and/or settling claims.
- Strong negotiation, organizational, and analytical skills, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills.
- Proven negotiation skills.
- Strong organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
