Job Title: Staff Accountant

Job Summary:

Vallarta Supermarkets is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team. As a Staff Accountant, you will be responsible for performing a variety of accounting tasks, including general ledger reconciliations, account receivables and chargebacks, and positive pay exception reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily bank remote check deposits and wires, and cross train on Bank reconciliation and daily cashflow updates.
  • Cross train store Accounting and reconciliation.
  • Monthly general ledger reconciliations.
  • Responsible for Account receivables and chargebacks.
  • Positive pay exception reporting.
  • Book and manage returned checks and chargebacks.
  • Managing gift card reconciliations.
  • Prepare journal entries and accrual entries for the month end close.
  • Book Journal entries for other related entities.
  • Reviews accounting documents to ensure accuracy of information and calculations and makes or directs correcting entries.
  • Assist with financial audits.
  • Cross train for fixed asset accounting, store accounting and bank reconciliation.

Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
  • Very strong accounting background required.
  • 3-5 years of strong accounting experience preferably in retail industry.
  • Advanced Excel skills and 10 Key.
  • Good communication skills and must be a team player.
  • Meet deadlines and be very resourceful.
  • Microsoft Dynamics AX or Great plains accounting software preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • May also have to do some light lifting of supplies and materials from time to time.

Work Schedule:

This is a Non-Exempt Level Position; Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm; schedule would be based on business necessity and coordinated through the reporting supervisor.
