Position Summary

We are looking to enhance our team in Houston, Texas, and are seeking a qualified candidate for the Building Envelope division. This role will report to a Principal, Managing Director, or designated staff member and will encompass a variety of essential functions, including but not limited to:

  • Comprehending building envelope materials, components, and systems, along with evaluation methods for both new and existing structures.
  • Engaging in building envelope design, detailing, and analysis, while participating in testing, fabrication, and construction oversight.
  • Providing guidance to architects and clients regarding building enclosure performance, constructability, and durability.
  • Possessing a thorough understanding of building envelope construction project phases, including shop drawings, modeling, design development, and construction documentation.
  • Preparing proposals and estimates for new projects, including additional services and change orders.
  • Estimating manpower requirements for both short-term and long-term projects, with updates as necessary.
  • Regularly meeting with management to provide project updates and address staffing needs.
  • Communicating project status effectively and involving management in project reviews for additional technical support.
  • Assisting staff and management in educating teams and clients on recent code and industry developments.
  • Successfully managing projects and deliverables with a proven track record.
  • Conducting and overseeing field reviews and progress inspections on assigned projects.
  • Documenting and maintaining comprehensive reports on project-related activities.
  • Ensuring familiarity with local building codes.
  • Advising management on project performance, key issues, status, scheduling, and completion estimates.
  • Establishing effective communication and relationships with clients and project management teams.
  • Producing detailed designs through hand sketching and utilizing 2D and 3D CAD software as required.
  • Providing cross-functional support to meet client needs and ensure internal timelines and project activities are completed.
  • Maintaining detailed documentation and tracking progress from initial proposal to project completion.
  • Breaking down technical requirements and assisting in managing budgetary constraints.
  • Offering updates on manpower and resource availability.
  • Occasionally presenting white papers or case studies to technical teams.
  • Managing team members and fostering training and mentorship.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in building envelope projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Engineering.
  • Registration as an Architect or Professional Engineer is preferred.
  • A Master's degree in Architecture or Engineering is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with architectural design theories, local laws, codes, and related standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Building envelope certifications are preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) or similar document creation and presentation software.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a dynamic team environment, with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated and capable of managing workload to meet project budgets and schedules.
  • Detail-oriented while maintaining a broader perspective.
