Job Title: Tenant Defense Staff Attorney

BronxWorks is seeking a dedicated and passionate Tenant Defense Staff Attorney to join our team. As a key member of our Tenant Defense Program, you will provide comprehensive legal representation to low-income tenants in the Bronx, ensuring they receive the support and advocacy they need to maintain their housing stability.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, where you will have the chance to make a meaningful impact on the lives of our clients. As a Tenant Defense Staff Attorney, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing full legal representation to tenants, including counsel, negotiation, and litigation in housing court and administrative tribunals.
  • Developing and applying expertise in housing court practice, housing programs and subsidies, and public benefits to secure the best possible client outcomes.
  • Participating in court-based intake processes and conducting intakes.
  • Engaging in client and community outreach and education initiatives.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A J.D. from an accredited law school and either a July 2024 bar exam taker or attorney admitted to practice in New York State.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and working in low-income communities and communities of color to advance equity.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds and conduct community outreach in low-income neighborhoods.
  • Excellent legal research, oral and written advocacy, and analytical skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, including the ability to manage a diverse and fast-paced caseload.
What We Offer

BronxWorks offers a competitive salary range of $78,000.00 to $85,000.00 per year, based on experience. We also provide a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
