Position Overview

Under the guidance of a Caltrans Electrical Supervisor (CES) or the direction of a Caltrans Electrician II (CEII), the Caltrans Electrician I (CEI) is tasked with a variety of essential duties. These responsibilities encompass preventative maintenance (PM), troubleshooting and repairs (T&R), installation, reinstallation, rebuilding, and conducting field inspections on all Caltrans Highway Electrical Inventory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and emergency repairs on electrical systems.
  • Collaborate with construction teams, local agencies, and utility companies to ensure compliance and efficiency.
  • Work independently or as part of a team to complete assignments effectively.
  • Be available for overtime, irregular shifts, and emergency response as required.
  • Travel extensively within the assigned area and potentially to other districts as needed.

Working Conditions

The position is primarily based in a climate-controlled office environment, but the majority of work will occur outdoors. Employees may encounter various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and inclement weather. Safety precautions, including the use of personal protective equipment, are mandatory.

Special Requirements

  • A valid California Driver's License (CDL) is required.
  • Successful completion of a drug screening prior to employment.
  • Verification of minimum qualifications will be conducted before interviews.
