Position Summary

The primary responsibility of this role involves managing distribution partnerships, cultivating relationships, implementing strategies, and enhancing processes. This includes a thorough understanding of Compass Group and Member purchasing, the development and execution of annual business plans, and the identification and implementation of value-added opportunities. The position may also entail supervisory responsibilities for direct reports.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Formulate category plans, joint business strategies, and presentations.
  • Devise distribution sourcing strategies and recommendations in collaboration with key business partners.
  • Work alongside the Sourcing team to negotiate and finalize preferred distribution contracts.
  • Assess ongoing service level requirements and maintain distributor performance metrics.
  • Serve as the primary contact for customer/sector service level concerns and enhancements.
  • Oversee essential internal processes, including budgeting, contract specifications, benchmarking, pricing, and product recommendations.
  • Conduct industry analyses to provide proactive insights for developing a three-year distribution strategy.
  • Collaborate with the BAR (data insights) Team to create tools and performance metrics for distributor evaluation.
  • Deliver ongoing trend analyses to identify value-creating opportunities and necessary corrective actions.
  • Develop comprehensive strategy reports.
  • Coordinate with internal departments (AR, AP, Compliance, BuySmart, Category) to align goals and priorities.
  • Manage KPIs for direct reports, ensuring identification of training opportunities and personal development plans.
  • Collaborate with category peers on product market entry strategies.
  • Develop and implement project plans for AR and AP-related activities, aligning with distributor operations teams to achieve results.
  • Create and present insights on customer and competitive landscapes, along with recommendations.
  • Identify, design, and execute cost-saving initiatives within assigned distributors.
  • Research current conditions and future needs, analyze market trends and potential suppliers, and pinpoint continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert on non-food distribution transitions, assisting with communications, business requirements, and process enhancements.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in supply chain, distribution, or within Foodbuy/Compass.
  • ISM Foodservice Certification is advantageous.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Project management experience.
  • Proficient analytical skills with large data sets.
  • Extensive negotiation experience.
  • Skilled in developing strategic business plans, creating annual budgets, and managing cross-functional projects.
  • Financial acumen and forecasting experience.
  • Professional presentation abilities.
  • Capability to influence both direct and indirect teams.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to travel up to 15% annually.
