Orientation and Mobility Specialist

At Perkins School for the Blind, we are committed to delivering exceptional education and support to students with visual impairments. As an Orientation and Mobility Specialist, you will play a vital role in empowering our students to achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:- Assess individual needs of each student in all areas of independent or daily living, establishing realistic and appropriate goals and objectives.
- Design and implement programs for each student's individual education plan (IEP), evaluating and reporting on progress.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to provide individualized educational and pre-vocational programs for students.
- Develop and implement programs to assist students in developing maximum safe travel potential and functional independence in various environments.
- Maintain a suitable learning environment, including planning and organizational techniques, and consult with support staff as needed.
- Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university, eligible for ACVREP Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Instructor.
- Masters degree preferred with two years experience teaching students with visual impairments who may also have additional disabilities.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to drive school vehicles, including chair cars.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing, think clearly in stressful situations, and possess high stress tolerance and physical stamina.
