Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing services to students and staff, including assessments, referrals, and follow-up care.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive school health program, including health education, screenings, and interventions.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other school personnel to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment.
  • Manage health records, maintain confidentiality, and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams to identify, evaluate, and place students in special education programs.
  • Develop and maintain health care plans for students with special needs.
  • Provide health-related classroom instruction and staff in-service programs.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in nursing and education.
Qualifications
  • Illinois Type 73 Pupil Personnel Services Certificate with School Nurse Endorsement.
  • Registered Nurse Licensure, Illinois.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automatic External Defibrillation certification.
  • Experience in nursing and completion of a School Nurse Emergency Care Course.
  • Illinois Certification as a Vision and Hearing screening technician.
  • Computer literacy and competency in use of existing technology.
  • Prior professional nursing experience, preferably pediatric, adolescent, community or mental health nursing, and health program management.
Evaluation and Supervision

As per current collective bargaining agreement.

The Certified School Nurse will supervise non-certified registered nurses working in the schools and health clerks.
