Key Responsibilities:
The Underground Utility Supervisor is responsible for overseeing crews engaged in the construction and maintenance of underground power lines. This role demands extensive knowledge of underground electrical distribution systems, effective management of multiple teams, troubleshooting distribution issues, coordinating storm response crews, and resource scheduling. Key tasks include:
- Managing the installation of underground primary conductors and overseeing the operation of various equipment used in electricity distribution.
- Reading and interpreting project blueprints while ensuring production efficiency and crew safety.
- Obtaining necessary materials and ensuring all permits and licenses are secured.
- Assuming full responsibility for project quality and timely completion.
- Adhering to safety standards and procedures, ensuring compliance with the highest safety practices.
- Conducting daily toolbox talks and weekly safety inspections to promote a culture of safety.
- Coordinating and supervising daily tasks for crew members related to excavation and installation.
- Executing switching procedures to isolate and insulate, splice, and terminate underground power lines safely.
- Facilitating the connection and disconnection of various electrical devices at customer facilities.
- Training new hires and mentoring trainees in the trade.
- Calling in utilities for each project site to ensure safety and compliance.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in operating heavy equipment and general construction.
- At least 2 years of supervisory experience.
- Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is mandatory.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 6 or more years of experience, with significant supervisory and training experience in skilled labor.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
This position operates primarily in a field environment, requiring physical stamina for extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and lifting. Employees may work in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and precipitation.
The physical demands outlined here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This role is physically active, with the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Clarity of vision at varying distances and precise hand-eye coordination are essential.
