Job Title: Athletic Girls Volleyball Coach – Elementary School Status: Part-time Exemption Status: Non-Exempt Department: Diocese of Tucson Primary Function: Under the guidance of the school principal, the Coach is tasked with supporting the School and the Diocese of Tucson in their mission to evangelize, educate, and nurture youth in a Catholic educational setting. The Coach is expected to embody the principles of the Gospel and Catholic teachings both in professional duties and personal conduct. The Coach will train and guide athletes in preparation for competitive events, ensuring they perform at their best, whether individually or as part of a team. They are knowledgeable about the rules, strategies, and techniques of volleyball, as well as equipment, fitness, and safety protocols. It is the coach's responsibility to foster an environment where the team can fully utilize their skills and abilities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Attend all practices and games, planning sessions effectively and ensuring all players are accounted for before and after practices. Responsibilities include managing uniforms, maintaining equipment, and communicating with parents and school administration. Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategies, and techniques, leading practice sessions and developing competition strategies while providing constructive feedback during events. Uphold and promote the unique Catholic Mission of the School by aligning actions and teachings with the doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church. Adhere to Catholic principles in both professional and personal life, demonstrating a commitment to Catholic morals and values. Exhibit Gospel values through active participation in a faith community and commitment to personal faith development. Contribute to the School's faith community by engaging in and assisting with religious and service activities. Demonstrate effective planning by preparing practices that align with athletic goals set by the School and the Diocesan Elementary Sports Program. Exhibit coaching competence through a thorough understanding of the sport, effective communication with student-athletes, and organization of practices to maximize engagement and learning. Establish a consistent disciplinary framework that encourages good sportsmanship and positive self-image among student-athletes. Collaborate with School and Diocesan administration, fostering positive relationships with athletes and parents through effective communication and attendance at events. Maintain professional responsibility by enforcing School policies and regulations at all times. Ensure confidentiality of information and display sound judgment in professional appearance and behavior. Perform additional duties as assigned. Physical/Mental Requirements: Coordination, manual dexterity, normal mental and visual capabilities, and the ability to lift as necessary in a typical office environment. Basic Qualifications: Strong commitment to the mission of fostering lay leadership in the Roman Catholic Church, with practicing Catholics in full communion with the Church. Understanding of volleyball and athlete development. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including public speaking. Strong interpersonal skills, self-motivated, organized, and a team player. Availability for evening and weekend commitments as required. Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. Flexibility in assessing needs and adapting strategies in a ministerial context. Completion of a criminal history and background check. Professional demeanor and neat personal appearance. Education and Experience: Valid certification in first aid and CPR. Other/Preferred Skills: Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution. Athletic Coaching Certificate from the State of Arizona. Certified Teacher in the State of Arizona.
