About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Linux Systems Administrator to join our team at Raytheon. As a key member of our IT department, you will be responsible for providing expert-level support for our Linux infrastructure, ensuring the stability and security of our systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide IT systems administration in a heterogeneous Red Hat Enterprise / Microsoft Windows environment.
- Lead and coordinate the Red Hat Installation and configuration.
- Design, develop and deploy Red Hat Podman containers.
- Participate in all phases of Engineering software installation and support, with emphasis on testing, documentation, and acceptance phases.
- Collaborate with teams and mentor junior Linux admins.
- Apply understanding and knowledge of Windows Server internals or Linux fundamentals to include DNS, DHCP, AD, and server replication methods.
- Apply understanding of data RAID, data backup uses and technologies. Install and configure software applications requested by end users.
- Provide documentation and training on advanced IT processes and procedures and other tasks as assigned.
- The candidate is responsible for provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software related to a Linux/Windows infrastructure for classified programs.
- Work with Cybersecurity professionals to maintain security requirements and provide documentation on advanced IT processes and procedures and other tasks as assigned.
- Must be able to obtain Department of Defense Directive (DoDD) 8140 / 8570 Certification requirements (CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent certification) within 6 months of start date.
- Systems are operational 24x7 and occasionally require work effort beyond standard work hours.
- Full time 100% Onsite position.
Requirements
- Typically, Bachelor's degree and 5 years of experience or 9 years of prior relevant experience.
- Active and transferable U.S. government issued Secret security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
- Experience with some of, but not limited to, the following technologies: Red Hat Enterprise Server, Active Directory, WSUS, VMware, BackupExec, NetBackup, prior systems administration and networking administration experience, Windows or Linux administration, backup, and recovery enterprise suites.
- Experience with Server architectures and troubleshooting methods and be able to assist in developing solutions and documentation to a variety of technical problems.
- Experience using VMWare vCenter, vSphere, Linux Desktops, Windows desktops (Windows 10, 11), Splunk and ESX and/or other virtual computing methods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active DoD T/S clearance, or the ability to obtain one.
- Department of Defense Directive (DoDD) 8140 / 8570 Certification requirements (CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent certification) and an Operating System Certification.
- Direct working experience with NISPOM, JAFAN, JSIG, DFARS and/or DoD/RMF.
- In-depth working experience in Linux Server.
- Experience with data storage, NAS, and SAN technologies and solutions.
- Experience supporting engineers in software, simulations, and hardware development.
- Experience with Microsoft WSUS, SCCM, and/or Exchange.
- High Performance Computing (HPC) experience in a Linux environment.
- Scripting Experience.

Compensation
The salary range for this role is $85,000 USD - $179,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
