Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Security Officer to join our team at Advocate Health. As a Security Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our patients, visitors, and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Security Services: Provide security services with professionalism, fairness, and compassion in challenging circumstances, in accordance with policies, procedures, and training.
  • Patrols and Inspections: Perform routine patrols to ensure safety and security, including inspections to identify vulnerabilities, hazards, and fire conditions.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to emergency situations, including combative or threatening patients or visitors and team member incidents, and serve as a primary resource for de-escalation.
  • Investigations: Investigate incidents that occur on Advocate Health property and complete timely and accurate reports.
  • Liaison and Education: Liaise with state and local law enforcement and first responder agencies, and deliver security awareness education to team members.
  • Training and Certification: Maintain current department training standards in radio communications, verbal de-escalation, stabilization, CPR, and application of clinical restraints.
Requirements
  • Licensure and Certification: Security Officer healthcare certification (CHSO) issued by the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) needs to be obtained within 2 years.
  • Education: High School Graduate or GED.
  • Experience: Typically requires 1 year of experience in a security, related public safety, or customer service area.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrated ability to exercise mature judgment and sound reasoning, verbal and written communications, and ability to use a computer to document work.
Working Conditions
  • Physical Requirements: Must sit, stand, walk, and drive throughout the workday, and must lift up to 35 lbs. occasionally.
  • Environmental Conditions: May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, explosive, and radiation hazards.
