Job Summary:

The Field Service Engineer III will perform on-site installation, servicing, and repair of complex electron microscopy equipment and systems. This role requires strong technical skills, excellent communication, and the ability to work effectively with customers and colleagues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct on-site installation of sophisticated equipment and follow testing procedures to ensure proper working order.
  • Provide troubleshooting and repair support for customers and other field service personnel.
  • Cultivate and develop positive working relationships with customers, system users, and company personnel.
  • Successfully complete technical training and identify specialist training based on microscopes in the region.
  • Proactively seek out additional learning opportunities and work informally with applications engineers or attend application courses to gain sophisticated knowledge.
  • Complete and submit field service reports and perform preventative maintenance on assigned tools.
  • Partner with colleagues to acquire technical guidance needed to problem-solve systems solutions and provide training to customers and users on system maintenance.
  • Make yourself available to train and mentor new field service engineers and provide feedback to product quality teams.
  • Provide recommendations for various reports, including identifying and isolating unique problems with systems.

Requirements:

  • University degree in electronics, physics, engineering, computer science, or a similar field preferred.
  • 5-10 years of equivalent combination of education, skills, and experience.
  • Operating, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating complex analysis tools such as SEM, TEM, FIB, Prober, or similar systems is preferred.
  • Experience with Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, teamwork, time management, organizational, problem-solving, conflict management, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure with minimal direct supervision and display a high level of confidentiality for both customer and Thermo Fisher Scientific.
  • Must be willing to travel 25-50% of the time and possess a valid driver's license and passport.

Physical Requirements:

  • Extensive walking may be required.
  • May work at customer locations, in office environments, or in laboratory environments.
  • Must be able to secure entrance to US Government laboratories and facilities.
  • Potentially pass through areas where chemical-based allergens may be in use.
