Job Overview

As an Airport Security Officer, you will engage in protective service duties focused on safety and security at the airport. This role involves close collaboration with the Airport Police Lieutenant and/or Chief to ensure a secure environment for all airport users.

Key Responsibilities
  • Uphold all applicable local, state, and federal regulations; patrol designated areas; investigate suspicious activities; ensure public safety; provide testimony in legal proceedings; maintain accurate records and documentation; prepare detailed reports.
  • Respond to radio communications and address calls and complaints effectively.
  • Assist in law enforcement activities in passenger screening and baggage check-in areas; ensure compliance with legal record-keeping.
  • Deliver security training to airport staff and tenants.
  • Manage curbside security for unattended vehicles and baggage.
  • Conduct regular patrols of airport perimeter access points and fuel storage areas.
  • Perform daily checks of vehicles in parking facilities.
  • Enforce parking regulations in terminal areas and access roads; issue citations as necessary.
  • Implement the Airport Emergency Plan in coordination with local law enforcement agencies.
  • Conduct inspections of personnel for proper identification badge usage; manage badge inventory.
  • Enforce taxi regulations; issue permits and conduct inspections of taxi vehicles.
  • Provide security escorts for contractors, vendors, maintenance staff, and military charter flights.
  • Act as the primary emergency contact for TSA at the airport.
  • Coordinate security protocols with airline partners.
  • Investigate traffic incidents occurring on airport premises.
  • Control vehicle access within the airport perimeter; issue permits and access media.
  • Participate in Disaster Ready Team (DRT) activities if appointed or volunteered.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Comprehensive understanding of law enforcement methods, practices, and procedures; familiarity with local, state, and federal laws as well as FAA security and airport operational protocols; knowledge of emergency medical care principles; ability to interact courteously yet assertively with the public; capacity to assess situations and take prompt, effective action considering surrounding risks; physical agility and endurance; ability to foster and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and the public.

Education and Experience

A high school diploma or GED is required, along with significant experience in law enforcement or a comparable combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements

This position necessitates regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds, and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds; work typically involves standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing; frequent hand usage for handling and repetitive motions; occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; work may require close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision; vocal communication is essential for conveying detailed instructions; hearing is necessary for understanding spoken information and making distinctions in sound; work may involve operating vehicles and equipment, as well as exposure to various environmental conditions.
