Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Pharmacy Intern to join our team at Arkansas Heart Hospital. As a Pharmacy Intern, you will assist with planning, organizing, directing, executing, and evaluating all aspects of pharmacy services for the hospital.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist licensed pharmacists with interpreting and processing physician orders, providing drug information, and performing continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Participate in discharge planning and perform non-distributive services, such as drug-level monitoring, as established by policy.
  • Exercise clinical judgment in reviewing and evaluating patients' drug therapy, collaborating with medical and nursing staff to provide quality patient care.
  • Review, compound, and accurately dispense pharmaceuticals and IV admixtures from a direct copy of the physician's original medication order.
  • Prepare, maintain, update, and monitor each patient's medication profile as required, charging and crediting medication to patients.
  • Check the work of supportive personnel and other pharmacy personnel for accuracy, proper labeling, and adherence to pharmacy policy and procedure.
  • Dispense and maintain appropriate records for all controlled substance medications and other medications in conformance with federal and state laws.
  • Oversee medication supplies, storage, and utilization on assigned nursing units.
  • Address any issues or problems in a professional and ethical manner.
Requirements
  • Currently enrolled in the didactic portion of classes at an accredited College of Pharmacy, with an expected graduation date within four years and a minimum degree of either Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD.
  • Actively licensed as a pharmacy intern issued by the State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Ability to interact and communicate with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, and families in an effective manner, exhibiting tact, enthusiasm, and patience.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions and irregular hours, exposure to communicable diseases and potentially contaminated body fluids and bio-hazardous materials.
