Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Director of Nurses for the Care Center, the Unit Clerk will provide administrative duties and telephone communications to enhance the flow of resident care on the unit.

Key Responsibilities
  • Communicate with medical staff, other departments, and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ensure adherence to proper infection control, OSHA, and safety standards.
  • Prepare charts for Nursing Home Residents, ensuring completion of all forms and records.
  • Notify appropriate staff of new admissions to the facility.
  • Prepare daily assignment sheets for C.N.A. Care Partners for each shift.
  • Notify Supervisor of call-outs and schedule personnel for the Care Center, and locate replacements for call-ins.
  • File and scan medical records into patient/resident charts.
  • Enter new lab, x-ray orders, EKG, Respiratory Therapy, and Therapy Services into the CPSI system.
  • Transcribe information from work sheets to resident's Matrix chart as necessary.
  • Set transportation for appointments and notify Director of Nursing of inability to set transportation arrangements.
  • Answer telephone and intercom, relaying information to appropriate personnel.
  • Fax prescription labels to reorder and copy and prepare charts for dismissal or transfer.
  • Send diet request slips to the dietary department.
  • Transfer medical records to HIM after 90 days and as necessary.
  • Assist with passing of meal trays and feeding residents.
  • Assist with getting residents to activities.
  • Maintain supply of forms and copies/reorder forms as needed.
  • Prepare and obtain supply orders as necessary.
  • Act as a receptionist utilizing exceptional customer service at all times.
  • Assist physicians, mid-level staff, vendors, and facility personnel as necessary.
  • Act as a preceptor for new personnel.
Requirements
  • Education level equivalent to completion of High School diploma or documented C.N.A. work experience.
  • Nurse Aide and Alzheimer's unit training preferred but not required.
  • Must have and maintain a current BLS - CPR certification.
  • At least one-year experience as a ward or unit clerk, Nursing Assistant with additional training, or related experience preferred.
