SUMMARY:

The Southern Queens Park Association is seeking a proactive individual to fill the role of Assistant Program Director for the Beacon initiative at J.H.S. 008 (Richard S. Grossley). Our programs are designed to function like clubs, providing enrichment in various areas including academics, sports, performing arts, community service, and conflict resolution through peer mediation. Under the guidance of the site program director, the assistant program director will support all job-related functions, which include overseeing program staff and participants, training, and the execution of program goals as outlined in the contracts.

The assistant program director will play a crucial role in developing a suitable program that fosters opportunities for the physical, emotional, educational, creative, and cognitive development of participants. This position demands a high level of interpersonal skills, creativity, and motivation to cultivate a comprehensive service program.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in ensuring compliance with agency and program policies by all participants.
  • Support the supervision and leadership of classroom staff; assist in organizing and directing all activities.
  • Ensure program participants are actively engaged in daily activities while maintaining safety and security protocols.
  • Collect attendance records at the end of each program day and communicate numbers to the administrator.
  • Report program challenges and successes to the Afterschool director.
  • Help coordinate staff meetings, training sessions, and development initiatives.
  • Participate in the recruitment and retention of program participants.
  • Attend all staff meetings, workshops, and training sessions relevant to program development.
  • Assist in providing necessary training to staff members for program and organizational growth.
  • Collaborate with the educational specialist and program site director to research, develop, and adapt lesson plans based on program themes.
  • Assist in data collection and management as part of the overall strategy for program development.
  • Support SQPA administration in research and grant writing efforts related to program development.
  • Complete projects as assigned by the Program Site Director.

Minimum Education: Associate's degree or equivalent
Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree from a four-year institution or equivalent
Experience: 2 Years

Founded in 1976, the Southern Queens Park Association is dedicated to coordinating and providing comprehensive programs for children, youth, adults, families, and seniors in Southern Queens. We strive to enhance the quality of life for residents through innovative programs and stewardship of the 54-acre Southern Queens-Roy Wilkins Park.
