Electrical Engineer for Medical Devices

ConMed is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our Research and Development team in Largo, FL. As an Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing electrical components and controls for medical devices, including sensor interfaces, communication protocols, and motor controls.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, analyze, and test electrical components and controls for medical devices.
  • Develop embedded software for medical device firmware components.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and support advanced surgical devices and powered instruments.
  • Contribute to electronics hardware and firmware designs using a version control system.
  • Maintain legacy codebase projects developed over time by multiple contributors.
  • Develop, analyze, and optimize medical instrument firmware/software and troubleshoot failure modes.
  • Drive sustaining engineering activities and continuous improvement of existing products and production equipment.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 2+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Firmware (embedded software) experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with software and hardware motor control for brushless motors and analog sensors.
  • Hands-on experience in an electronics lab environment.
  • Understanding of control theory and experience generating control algorithms.
  • Knowledge of FDA and ISO guidelines for the development of medical devices.
  • Experience with Version Control (such as Git), Issue Tracking (such as Jira), Eclipse-based IDEs (such as MCUxpresso), and Requirements Management tools (such as ReqView).
  • Experience with CAD tools such as Altium.
  • Knowledge of analog and digital electrical engineering signals and measurements.
