Job Description

The University of Southern Maine's Department of Theatre is seeking highly qualified part-time faculty members to teach and mentor students in various areas of musical theatre performance, design, and technology. As a part of our team, you will contribute to the rich cultural, creative, and artistic life of the greater Portland area and the state of Maine.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach and mentor students in musical theatre performance, design, and technology courses
  • Develop and implement curriculum that aligns with the department's goals and objectives
  • Collaborate with colleagues to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment
  • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to the development of departmental policies and procedures
Requirements
  • BA or BFA in Musical Theatre or a related field
  • Advanced degree completion in theatre or liberal arts
  • Experience directing fully produced musicals at the college level
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current musical theatre industry practices, repertoire, styles, and pedagogies
  • Diverse teaching skills suited to various learning styles, focusing on student-centered learning
  • Proficiency in musicianship, including sight-reading and sight-singing
  • Acting/performance experience with the ability to model and demonstrate for students
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated professional experience in scenic design, lighting, and costume technologies
  • Experience working with, instructing, and supervising college-aged theatre students
  • Ability to join a collaborative and collegial department of professional theatre practitioners
  • Recognition of current industry practices that are student-focused, diverse, inclusive, and equitable
