About the Position

We are seeking a highly motivated and collaborative Assistant Professor to join our team in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The successful candidate will have a strong focus on the use of magnetic resonance (MR) imaging or spectroscopy for the study of critical questions in human movement with an emphasis on translational research.

Responsibilities
  • Establish and develop an active, high-impact research program at UMass Amherst with an independent base of support using funds that may originate from diverse sources such as federal and state granting agencies, foundations, and industry collaborations.
  • Be an active participant in the Center for Personalized Health Monitoring in IALS, which engages faculty from departments across campus in research on metabolism, human movement, aging, fatigue, and sleep, as well as the development and application of wearable sensors for the study of human behavior and health in real-world settings.
  • Contribute to undergraduate and graduate education in the Kinesiology Department, including overseeing graduate theses and dissertations, as well as undergraduate independent study and honors projects.
  • Serve on departmental, IALS, SPHHS, and university committees, professional panels, and boards, as assigned or desired.

The Department of Kinesiology at UMass Amherst is a world-renowned program with a strong research focus in areas such as biomechanics, movement neuroscience, physical activity and health, and physiology. The department has a long history of supporting outstanding research and graduate training, and we aim to promote diversity within all aspects of our program.

About the Institute for Applied Life Sciences

IALS is home to three intellectual Centers, including the Center for Personalized Health Monitoring, which engages faculty from departments across campus in research on metabolism, human movement, aging, fatigue, and sleep, as well as the development and application of wearable sensors for the study of human behavior and health in real-world settings.

Requirements
  • Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent degree in kinesiology or a related field at the time of appointment.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with evidence of the potential to develop an outstanding translational research program.
  • The successful candidate will consistently use human MR techniques as a primary or complementary tool in their research approach.
