Position Title: Youth Prevention Specialist
Location: Fort Bend County, FBRC's Prevention Services Department
General Overview:
Are you eager to create a significant difference in the lives of young individuals? As a Prevention Specialist, you will play a vital role in the educational landscape of Fort Bend County schools. Under the proactive leadership of the Prevention Program Director, you will implement the six CSAP Strategies tailored for diverse student populations:
  • Information Dissemination
  • Education
  • Alternatives
  • Problem Identification & Referral
  • Community-based Process
  • Environmental Strategies
Your commitment will be solely directed towards FBRC's Prevention Services Department, making you an essential contributor to fostering a promising future for our youth.
Essential Qualifications:
This role necessitates either a Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) or an Associate Prevention Specialist (APS) designation, or a commitment to pursue this credential within 18 months of employment. Engage in our Professional Development Plan to enhance your skills and credentials.
Your Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage & Educate: Deliver engaging, curriculum-driven prevention education and skills training for children and adolescents in your designated schools.
  • Plan Innovative Activities: Organize and execute dynamic community and school-based alternative activities for youth, including our renowned summer programs.
  • Assess & Assist: Conduct evaluations of risk and protective factors, develop service plans, provide counseling/referrals, and ensure comprehensive follow-ups.
  • Connect & Refer: Offer precise referrals to mental health or social service agencies and other community resources.
  • Maintain Accurate Records: Ensure all documentation, record-keeping, and statistical data related to service delivery are precise and timely.
  • Present & Inspire: Conduct impactful prevention presentations in schools and the community, fostering inspiration and awareness.
  • Community Engagement: Actively participate in community coalitions, collaborating effectively with the Prevention Director to make a tangible difference.
What You Bring:
  • CPS or APS designation, or a commitment to begin the process immediately within 18 months.
  • A strong desire to positively influence the lives of children and adolescents.
  • Excellent organizational and communication abilities.
  • Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a dynamic team.
  • Experience working with youth is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with community resources and referral systems.
