Job Overview

Position Summary: The Business Manager acts as the primary liaison for assigned suppliers within the market. This role is pivotal in mastering and driving the five essential competencies: business strategy formulation, performance assessment, product and inventory oversight, pricing and revenue optimization, and demand forecasting/budgeting. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, the Business Manager develops and executes comprehensive business strategies while upholding the principles of BBG's Trade Development mission. Adherence to established business protocols and support for BBG's Reliability Model is crucial. The Business Manager serves as the local market authority on customer insights, brand dynamics, key sales drivers, and market trends.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Business Strategy Formulation
    • Foster and promote behaviors aligned with our Trade Development mission.
    • Establish a regular business planning schedule with designated suppliers.
    • Create monthly execution/business plans for each assigned supplier.
    • Implement the business planning schedule with identified sales leads.
    • Provide timely and comprehensive sales information documents to highlight brand development activities.
    • Identify local market opportunities by leveraging key sales drivers.
    • Develop and distribute sales documents, including pricing, advertising, POS materials, and sell sheets, supported by analytics.
    • Negotiate and communicate incentives and up to 20 rationalized objectives per supplier/brand/product.
    • Manage goal models for assigned suppliers.
    • Consistently adhere to established business protocols.
  2. Performance Assessment
    • Regularly evaluate performance metrics across all key activities.
    • Ensure comprehensive supplier scorecards are maintained.
    • Provide updates on performance metrics in relation to budget.
    • Support and uphold our Reliability Model.
  3. Product and Inventory Oversight
    • Collaborate effectively with Data Stewards.
    • Manage sales and purchase blocks appropriately.
    • Ensure adherence to allocation business rules.
    • Identify over-inventory products in partnership with Finance.
    • Take action on aged and over-inventory products.
    • Establish business rules for innovation, discontinued, and vintage products.
  4. Pricing and Revenue Optimization
    • Develop effective collaboration with Revenue Management.
    • Engage with suppliers regarding the timing of price adjustments.
    • Implement a consistent approach for pricing communication with sales teams.
    • Ensure mastery of pricing business rules by Revenue Management and Sales teams.
    • Negotiate and manage the tactical BBG budget for effective investment spending.
  5. Demand Forecasting/Budgeting
    • Establish effective collaboration with Demand Planning.
    • Participate actively in the monthly Demand Process.
    • Manage the local BBG market financial budget.
    • Negotiate and manage tactical budgets with assigned suppliers to ensure effective investment.
    • Settle local supplier objectives.
    • Establish settlement procedures with finance to enhance program effectiveness.
    • Provide forecast anomalies to purchasing and demand planning.
  6. Additional Duties: Other responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of industry experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office and other relevant software.
  • Results-oriented with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently or in a team, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong skills in business planning and collaboration.
  • Knowledge of trade development fundamentals.
  • Proficient in sales, finance, budget management, negotiation, and leadership.
  • Ability to translate strategy into actionable marketplace activities.
  • Strong analytical and reporting capabilities.
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous management experience.
  • Cross-functional experience in finance, operations, IT, HR, or project management.
  • Proficiency in analyzing syndicated consumer data.
  • Experience with budgeting and/or P&L management in a major CPG company.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain stationary at times, communicate effectively, and operate a computer and telephone.

Competencies:

  • May assist in coordinating the work of junior team members.
  • Ability to resolve varied and non-routine issues through analysis and investigation.
